Schloss Schönhausen is one of the few palaces in Berlin that survived World War II unscathed. In 1740, Frederick II (the Great) gifted the estate to his wife, Elisabeth Christine, who lived there until her death in 1797. After the war, the palace initially served as the residence of the President of the GDR and later as a guesthouse. The Central Round Table negotiations and, eventually, the “Two Plus Four Talks” of 1990, which played a crucial role in German reunification, closely connected the site with recent German history. It is a place of Prussian and German-German historical significance!
